Why OKF, why now
The Open Knowledge Format is an open specification (v0.1) published by Google Cloud on 12 June 2026. It defines a vendor-neutral way to package the metadata, context, and curated knowledge AI systems need, as a directory of UTF-8 Markdown files with YAML frontmatter. The required field is type; index.md and log.md are reserved.
It formalises the "LLM-wiki" pattern: curated, version-controlled, portable knowledge that agents can read without bespoke SDKs. As more teams build agents on top of internal knowledge, having that knowledge in a clean, open, portable format becomes a practical advantage. Acting early means your knowledge is ready when you need it, not scrambled together later. New to OKF? Read the basics on our sister resource, OKF Academy.
Convert your knowledge into a format agents can actually use
Start with a fixed-fee readiness audit. It is the low-risk way to see what is possible, what it costs, and where the value is, before any build.
